The Journey 🐪

Your adventure begins in Marrakech, where you are welcomed at the airport and transferred to a traditional Riad tucked away near the vibrant Medina. Take time to unwind, explore the city’s souks and settle into Moroccan culture before heading south.

Travel through mountain passes and desert landscapes toward the Gateway of the Sahara, where civilisation fades and the dunes begin. Your first night in the desert is spent in comfortable desert accommodation, arriving at sunset to a warm meal, music around the fire and a sky filled with stars.

Guided by experienced Berber nomads, you then embark on a multi-day trek across the Sahara, travelling by foot and camel along ancient routes once used by traders and caravans. Learn desert survival skills, from fire-making, natural navigation, to locating water. As days unfold among golden dunes and vast silence. Each evening brings glowing sunsetsThe Golden Hour — followed by shared campfire meals, mint tea, songs, stories and stargazing beneath the Milky Way.

Deeper in the desert, ride camels to the Doorway of the Sahara. Climbing the highest sand dune offers a breathtaking sunset view and experience traditional rituals such as desert wells, sand baths and sand bread baked over the fire.

As the journey draws to a close, trek back to the oasis for a final desert lunch beneath the palms. Visit a historic kasbah, share tea with locals and rejuvenate with a traditional hammam, before returning to the desert for a farewell sunset, feast, music and one last night beneath the stars.

You return to Marrakech for a final night in your Riad before departure, carrying with you an experience that humbles, grounds and stays long after the desert fades from view.

More than travel, this is an immersion into the wild heart of the Sahara — where every step draws you closer to the untamed spirit of the Earth.

What to Know Before You Go

This Sahara Desert adventure is designed for travellers in good general health and fitness, ready to experience a deeply rewarding journey through one of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes.

Daily Trekking: Each morning begins beneath the rising sun with a trek of approximately 25–30 km (3–4 hours). We travel early to enjoy cooler temperatures, resting during the hotter afternoon hours. The terrain is largely flat and open, with occasional stretches of soft sand.

While we encourage guests to walk as much as possible, camel rides are available if you need a rest along the way.

Camping Equipment: Foam mattresses are provided for camping in the desert. You’re welcome to bring your own lightweight foam mat, our camels will appreciate the lighter load. A 3 season sleeping bag & travel pillow is essential.

Kit List: A detailed kit list will be sent prior to travel. (See FAQ below) We strongly encourage travelling light - oversized suitcases are not suitable for this journey and flight costs are often lower with carry-on luggage only.

Facilities: There are toilets available at the hotel in Marrakech and at our first desert base camp. Once we begin trekking deeper into the desert on day three, there are no facilities, this is a true return to the wild. Our experienced guides will offer clear guidance on respectful and responsible desert practices.

Sun Protection: The Sahara sun is powerful. Please bring sunglasses, a sun hat, high-factor sunscreen and stay well hydrated throughout the day. Hats can be purchased in Marrakech or from local sellers en route to the desert. Traditional nomadic turbans are provided, offering both sun protection and an authentic cultural touch.

The Desert Environment: In our fast-paced urbanised lives, we often forget the power of silence. The desert offers something rare and vast; an unworldly stillness. When the wind rises, the dunes begin to sing, carrying what nomads call the “voices of the desert.” If strong winds or sandstorms occur, durable communal shelters are set up to ensure comfort and safety.

Desert Nights: Depending on the season, desert temperatures drop after sunset, not freezing, but noticeably cooler after a day in the sun. Bring warm layers and a torch for the evenings. With no electricity and no light pollution, nights are illuminated only by firelight and the Milky Way above, perfect conditions for stargazing, reflection and night photography.

Wild Nomad Adventures Riad.jpg

Riad in Marrakech & Accommodation

Your adventure begins and ends in comfort, with accommodation provided on the first and last night in a Riad in Marrakech, located in a quiet spot, yet nearby to the busy Medina. (A “Riad" is a traditional Moroccan house built around a central, enclosed courtyard or garden). The Riad includes private rooms with bathroom, air conditioning, a pool, sauna and hammam.

After our day of travel and upon arrival at our first desert camp, you’ll stay in private rooms equipped with bathrooms and showers, the perfect place to mentally prepare before the expedition begins.

Once we leave the desert base camp and journey deeper into the Sahara, the experience becomes truly wild. You’ll be camping in the desert and sleeping beneath the open stars, surrounded by the vast stillness of the desert. Plenty of space for solitude and peace.

At each remote camp location, communal shelters are set up to provide shade during the day, for meal times, as well as protection in the event of any high winds, sandstorms or rare desert rain.

This is authentic desert living, simple, grounding and unforgettable.
